My Favorite Recipes

As with most women, I have a small collection of favorite recipes. A few of mine are here for your cooking and eating pleasure.

Shrimp Creole
This is a recipe I developed based on an old recipe. It is shrimp in a mildly spiced tomato sauce served over rice. This is my family's favorite dish - without a doubt!

Barbequed Chicken
This is another family favorite. The sauce is tangy without being overly hot. The chicken is definitely tasty after being baked in the sauce. But the best part is using the sauce over mashed potatoes. I know it sounds weird, but don't knock it until you've tried it.

Peppered Steak
I found this recipe in a magazine. For those who like heavily seasoned or peppery food, it is really good. For those who don't, I suggest you pass on this one.

Carrot Golden Nugget Salad
My Aunt Dorotha gave me this recipe a long time ago. Whenever I take this to a pot-luck affair, I always get numerous requests for the recipe.

Cream of Potato Soup
I developed this recipe myself. It is a combination of several different recipes. It has a little bit of a bite to it because of the cayenne pepper, but this may be left out for those who don't care for spicy foods.

Zucchini Soup
I worked with Marie Majewski at Howard County Health Department for over ten years. She gave me this recipe, and it is truly good. The proportion of sweet and hot sausage may be adjusted to suit your own taste for spice. My father has said that it is the best way to eat zucchini.

Fruit Bowl
I "stole" this recipe from my old boss Dr. Boyd, although I did confess to her later. The fruits are nothing unique; however, the yogurt sauce makes it something quite special. It's great for potluck get-togethers because it will go with just about anything.

Taco Cheese Dip
My daughter Christine gave me this recipe. It doesn't take long to make, and it's always a hit at a party.

Jewish Apple Cake
I got this recipe from a woman I worked with at Maryland State Police. I have made it over and over, and I never fail to get compliments on it. Although it takes longer to make than a box mix, the overall preparation time is about the same because it requires no frosting.

Eclair Cake
This is another recipe I got from a co-worker. If you like eclairs from Dunkin Donuts, you'll love this.

Applesauce Cake
I don't remember who gave me this recipe, but I've been making it for a long time. The cake is very moist and tasty. It's really quick and easy to make, and it's hard to mess up. One time the cake had been in the oven for about 5 minutes when I realized that I'd forgotten to add the raisins. I took the cake out of the oven, sprinkled the raisins over the batter, stirred the raisins into the batter with a knife, and then returned the cake to the oven. It still came out the same.

The music on this page is Poco Allegretto by Brahms, Symphony 6 Opus 90. It is a personal favorite of mine that I've played on the piano for many years.
